Vehicle failed for hydrocarbons badly, what could be the fix? #4?
I done a full tune up, new distruber cap, cables, sprak plug.... new PCV valve new air filter
still planing on taking EGR valve off and cleaning it
after i did all this the hydrocarbons ppm went up another 100, few mechanics told me it went up due to better and full combustion creating more exhaust
Hydro carbons readings are now almost 500ppm and inspections requires less then 220ppm
I do all the work myself was thinking maybe replacing the Catlic convertor and the oxygen sensor
Its a 91 S-10 Blazer 4.3L V6 160000 miles
Check engine light is not on
Idles smoothly now that tune up was done also seems to have more power now...
Max Hydrocarbon allowed 220ppm
Results-461.41ppm
Max Carbob Monoxide allow 1.20ppm
Results-0.42ppm
What should i Do? Plese info me of any other info needed to answer this question
hydrocarbon is a result of too much unburned fuel, if your o2 sensors are not working you will be in "choke" or full rich mode, if your temp gauge is not working the same will happen. if you have injectors leaking fuel into the air stream your will have high hydrocarbon readings. the cat will help the egr valve will have the opposite affect on it
