is it possible to change it?
i have a 18 speed mtb
and i'm going to have to change the rear cassette because the teeth are bent. is it possible for me to make it a 21 speed by buying a cassette with 7 rings instead of 6? the shifters are sort of broken anyway so i'll be buying new ones
oh and since i'm buying new shifters, is it possible to switch from my current twist shifters to trigger shifters?
yes you can change both . the rear triangle will take up to a 8 or 9 speed cassette on nearly all bikes made today. Given that yours is a 6 speed then I dare say it may not be worth upgrading much of anything on your bike. by todays standards even 8 speed is a thing of the past on all but low end mountain bikes and 9 speed is where the market is currently focusing. Even 7 speed is relegated to the lower end comfort and cruiser bikes. If your bike is a dept store purchased bike then I would strongly suggest that you not put any $ into it and look at getting a new(er) 8 speed bike that will be much better equipped. Trigger shifters to look at are going to be very low end and not expensive for 7 speed and will be around $25 for a pair at most....I dont even know what brand to recommend for even 7 speed, havent dealt with that one in quite some time. Check with your local shop and see what they can get for your bike.
