Thorn Resistant 39

There is a thorny, resistant vine growing at/around the base of our river birch tree.?

It roots and spreads, every time I think I've pulled the last of it, it turns up again. It is not a very leafy vine, the leaves are bright green and tiny, it has little thorns all along the stems, and spreads quickly. Any advice to kill this - without hurting trees in the same vicinity. Thanks.

let it grow to a height where you can bend it away from the tree, place a piece of card board under it and spray it with roundup careful it isnt windy so as not to harm grass and tree it is beside. if that dont kill it best to cautiously dig it up and toss it out be careful not to damage the trees root system.
