Stem Adaptor 12

1992 Ford Explorer A/C Issues Need some professional advice here?

In my ignorance I thought I could just top off the a/c with R134, not realizing it was and R-12 system (yes I know, stupid). So in the process it seems as though I drained all the R-12 out but of course none of the R134 went in. Needless to say it no longer worked after that. I then did some research on converting the system myself, and bought a kit at Wal-Mart. I didn't think I'd need to take it to a shop to have any R-12 drained, so I just tried it. Another mistake I made is that I didn't take out the valve stem on the low end when I was trying to pump the R134 in. So I took it out and screwed on the 134 adaptor again, tried pumpin some more 134, to no avail.

I'm hoping this makes sense. Any ideas?

If you drained all the old R-12 out, you`ve now probably got air in your system, also,You dont have to remove the valve stem on the R-12 low end screw-on fitting. Go to auto parts store and buy R-12 to 134-a adapter, should cost around 4 bucks. You will have to pull a vacuum on your system, then install new 134-a requirements. It`s really pretty simple to do, but borrowing the portable vacuum is the hard part. If you can`t pull a vacuum, take it to a service mechanic and tell him what you done.
