I need help picking out a Downhill bike?
Im into biking, right now i just do some trail riding. I own a Haro shift R5. I go riding through sycamore canyon (poway CA) with my uncle. I enjoy riding downhills and riding through some technical sections. With that said i am looking into downhill bikes. I want something cheap but well made. Im willing to pay anywhere from $2000 to $2500. I want a bike with plenty of front travel and i want it to be strong. Also i think adjustable front suspension is a really nice feautre. i was really into the specialized BigHit FSR III, but its about $3000, i lil hight for a 14 year old like me to buy. I was also looking at diamondbacks too. but anyt suggestions welcome.
Thanks

I'd say look into a Santa Cruz Heckler....I know it's not a lot more travel than what you already have on the Haro, but it's an awesome bike. It pedals great and it's plenty capable of moderate downhilling.
If you want more than 6" of travel and need to stay in that price range, check out the stuff from Kona and Iron Horse. Kona is an awesome company focused on function and durability.....you can't go wrong with them....any of their bikes. Iron Horse has great stuff and good designs. Their susupension linkage is getting rave reviews. They spec cheaper components on some of their bikes but overall they have a good package. The Trek Remedy is worth looking at, too.
If you're open to buying a used bike, your horizons will broaden a lot. Check out the classifieds at www.ridemonkey.com and www.mtbr.com . www.pinkbike.com also has some. An awful lot of people buy a downhill/freeride rig and then find out they don't have the kahunas to ride the stuff it's meant for, or they discover that they're much heavier and don't pedal as well for xc sections of trail.....then like magic, nice new-ish bikes end up for sale on the cheap!
