1995 dodge dakota transmission and speedometer need help?
after driving for distaces, about 20 minutes or so, my speedometer starts bouncing and goes down farther and farther, causing my transmission to try to shift. i have been told its the speed control sensor on the trans. so i replaced it. there was no improvement. i have unplugged the speed/abs sensor on the rear end buth this dont help either. when i pull the +side battery cable off and put it back on, after a few minutes it works fine for maybe 5 miles.
when i drive in town or short distances, it drives normally and speedometer works fine. just screws up when going more than approximatly 20 miles or so. it does this each time i drive it, at approximatly the same distance.
I know that some Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicles have 2 VSS (vehicle speed sensors) I had the same thing happen to a 1994 Sebring so I'm sure that is the problem and you have to replace the second VSS. That was a long time ago so I cannot remember where it was located but it was not the one on the tranny. Good Luck!!
