how do you hold aero bars (road bike handlebars)?
I heard somewhere they were called aero bars I wasn't sure though. Anyway, I just got my FIRST road bike, I'm only 16. I went for my first ride today and it was AMAZING the only problem was my fingers hurt because I guess im positioning my hands wrong on the handlebars. Can you give me an explanation on how to hold your hands when you are standing up going up a hill pumping. I had 3 behind and 1 over if that makes sense. Also, my neck was really hurting after. Any tips on how to fix either of these things, thanks.
You only use the aero bars when you are sitting. When climbing when sitting or standing I put my hands on the back of the brake hoods with my 4 fingers behind the brake lever and my thumb on the other side. I would remove the aero bars for now and get use to the bike. That will allow you to use the flat spots to sit upright more and relax your back and neck.
