gas pressure..................
Please help..
1. A tire pump is attached to a rigid metal tank, and its used to force twice the amount of gas into the tank. What is the relationship between the pressure and the number of moless of atoms of gas?
a.Write an equation that represents this relationship
b.explain what happens to pressure on the molecular level when the number of moles of gas is increased at a constant volume
c.what is the pressure of the gas at 0 degrees celcius if a 22.4 liter tank contains 2 moles of gas?
Ideal gas law shows the relationship: PV = nRT : p=pressure, n=moles, v=volume, t=temperature, R=gas constant
look at the equation again PV = nRT.....if n goes up, and v is constant, the P must go up! pressure increases when we increase the number of molecules because there is a fixed distance that molecules can be next to each other, and molecules have a certain real mass and volume themselves. So if volume is fixed, and we keep trying to cram more molecules into the "tank" the pressure will increase because these mlecules will "push" on the walls of the tank to try to maintain the distance between them. this distance between molecules is a function of their atomic or ionic radius as well as attractive or repulsive forces between them (inter or intramolecuar forces)
C. plug the numbers into the PV=nRT equation. R = .08206 Lxatm/molxK , K is temperature in kelvin so you'll have to convert it.
