Press Fit 13

How to get fit for the australian sasr with a home gym??????

G'day guys,
im keen on joining the australian sasr and would like to know how to prepare myself for the physical side of selection and following tests. i only have a home gym with a barbell a pair of dumbells a bench a boxing bag, i also have an ALICE pack if that would help with pack marches. i was just wondering wat sorts of exercises ( pushups situps pullups runs bench press bicep curls deadlifts etc.) i would have to do and how many sets and reps or distance ect. i would need to do to prepare myself for the selection test. i have read through the 13 week program but dont have all the equiptment needed for that preparation. also i have read they do breathe holding test for 25 metres of a pool and was just wondering if thats true and how to prepare for that aswell
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers

From a realistic point of view, training for the SASR when you have not even completed recruit and initial employment training, let alone been enlisted, is pointless and dangerous.

Especially with pack marching - they will teach you how to do it at Kapooka, Singleton and/or your unit. Doing it improperly or without appropriate knowledge on how to load your pack and there's a good chance you will injure your legs or back long before boarding the bus to Kapooka. Use that ALICE pack to carry things to cadet weekends if you must, but for your own sake, don't even think of training with it yet.

The 13 Week Program isn't intended for 16-18 year olds, it's intended for mature serving members of the ADF who already have a decent, base-line level of fitness to build up upon. It is intense, and you risk injury by trying it without that required level of fitness and experience.

I recommend that you train yourself for the Army's Basic Fitness Assessment instead - for a male under 25, you need to do at least 40 pushups, 70 situps and run 2.4km in under 11 minutes and 18 seconds. This is the sort of thing you can train well for before putting on the greens, and the higher the score you get, the better prepared you will be for recruit and infantry training, and the better you will look. Good scores to aim for are at least 70 pushups, 100 situps (maximum score) and 2.4km in under 9 minutes. A home gym is more than adequate.
