PLEASE HELP!!! Math problem: How much longer will it take for the tank to be completely filled...? THANK YOU!!
A large tank is the shape of a cylinder. It is 20 feet long and 34.54 feet around when 3.14 is pi. A valve at the top of the tank is used to fill it with water. A valve at the bottom is used to drain the water from the tank. The top valve fills the tank with water at a rate of 10 cubic feet per minute. If the bottom valve is left open, and water drains at a rate of 180 cubic feet per hour, A valve at the top of the tank is used to fill it with water. A valve at the bottom is used to drain the water from the tank. The top valve fills the tank with water at a rate of 10 cubic feet per minute. If the bottom valve is left open, and water drains at a rate of 180 cubic feet per hour, how much longer will it take for the tank to be completely filled than if the valve at the bottom had been closed?
PLEASE show me how to solve this problem!
Thank you SO MUCH for your help. I strongly appreciate it!
The answer is 271.385714228571428571428571
The rate of fill is correctly 7 cubic feet per minute
(it fills with 600 per hour (10 * 60) and drains 180 per hour. Therefore, total fill is 420 cf per hour or 7 cf per minute)
pi*diameter=circumference
so diameter=circumference/pi - which is 11 in this example
if d=11 then radius (r) is 5.5
area of circle is pi*r(squared) - which in this example is 94.985 - multiply this by the height of 20 feet to get area.
Area is 1899.7 cubic feet
So 1899.7 fills at rate 7 per minute
1899.7 / 7 = 271.38571428571 minutes
thats 4 hours 31 minutes and 23 seconds to the nearest second
