What cheap brand of bike is better...?
I'll be giving a new bike as a Christmas present to my 14 years old nephew, and I've narrowed my options to a Mongoose MTB at Wal-Mart, made in China for $115.00, or a Benotto MTB at the Bike Shop, made in Mexico, for $122.00... Both are aluminium frame, with front suspension, and while the Mongoose has a more 'modern' style, the Benotto looks more classical... Obviously the kid is not a pro racer and just want to have some fun in the streets...

Without taking the time to compare the specs, I would strongly suggest the model from your local bike shop. My reason? Would you want some teenager making minimum wage to assemble your car, or would you choose to have it done by someone who is properly trained and does it all day every day? I can't tell you how many times I've walked past the bikes in WalMart and wondered how long before we hear about major lawsuits...
