Possible sign of transmission going out?
Today I was driving my car, and on a flat road up in the hills the engine wouldn't gain much speed. I had the pedal halfway down to the floor and they speed was only at about 25, so I held it all the way down, and hearing the engine roar it was just about 35 still. Than when I was on the highway I got up to 60 fine, but the needle barely budged past that. I had the pedal almost to the floor, Any input? 86 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Check the fluid level before you do anything, make sure its cherry red and at the proper level. If thats ok, have the transmission serviced as the filter may be plugged. If its brown and smells burnt; theres a very good chance it MAY be wasted but try the above first and be sure to check for trans leaks.
