Cage Mtb 11

I have a 17inch BMC SuperStroke FS mtb. What kind of rear derailleur should I get.?

I mean Long, short or medium cage. Is there a "standard" or any indications that would lead me to an answer. It has 34-11 tooth cassette and regular chain rings. Will it shift Sh*tty if I have the wrong cage? I have a XT long cage Rr derailleur on it now.

If I were you since you left out more detail about which bike exactly that you have in this line-up such as travel in inches 4" or 5 or 6" then I would say that a long cage would be best on any of these and generally on a shorter frame size would you want a short cage such as a 15" or less and since you have the 17" stay with the long cage XT derailleur for better response in shifting on this size frame. There is a standard and yes you could use the short cage but I see no real reason to do so. It would not shift any different either way and there is nothing written in stone that says you have to have either one but the medium size frame generally dictates a long cage derailleur.
