its only a 14 spd vs. the 24 above. im wondering if i should invest $100 extra for this instead of the 2nd choice. i read that u dont really need a 24 if ur well trained. but isnt a 24 good for all kind of terrain? also riding in nyc streets - is it bad for the thin tires? or should i just walk it to central park THEN bike there? opinions or suggestions will be appreciated. thank you!
The first one has its shifters integrated with the brake levers on the handlebars.
The second one has its shifters mounted on the headset (right below the handlebars' center stem). With this setup, you will have to take your hands off the handlebars to shift gears.
Of course you can ride road bikes on NYC streets... Bike messengers do it every day, rain or shine. You do have to be very careful riding on the streets though.
Hope this helps.
