I have to ride 20km on the road on my bicycle, mostly uphill, everyday. What kind of road bike do I need?
I recently decided to start cycling again, only this time around my workplace is significantly farther than I ever had before. I have an older Hiawatha (much like this one, only in a bit better shape: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/47/159709654_769c80c2e0.jpg) which was fine for 30-45min distances without significant hills. Hopefully something under 500$
I live in Toronto, so a less expensive bike is a must. The city is notorious for serious bike burglars! I have had my bike stolen 3 times.
Your commute sounds like 10 to 15 miles round trip, I recommend you look at two bikes. You are right at the price point for a nice bike or a piece of crap. You might ask your boss if there is a place where you can keep your bike inside - and still lock it.
