fiesta engine noise under load?
fiesta 1.4 zetec 2005 reg 22,000mls
upon starting from cold engine runs normally acceleration normal all fine until i get to the end of the road where i live thier is a steep hill, once the car starts up the hill - using correct gear of course their is a loud rattle or might be best described as ball bearings bouncing around inside the engine, had a look around the engine bay and underneath and all looks fine on the outside nothing hitting - rubbing of the engine any ideas.
lets just say when it occurs if you ease off the acc pedal and and hold the speed no noise try and speed up noise present..
sounds very much like a common case of preignition or 'pinking'.
this is where an wrong fuel mixture or /and a ignition too far advanced will cause the ignition of the fuel on it s firing stroke to commence too early. this gives a very high cylinder pressure. the pressure is so fast and high it make sit sound like somebody is hitting very rapidly with a hammer inside the engine. easing off the accelerator wil altre fuel mixture and ignition advance thus stopping the noise.
have timing etc checked out. ideally as part of a service including new air filter and spark plugs.
