The Importance Of Continuous Action

“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.”
-Pearl S. Buck

Did you guys know that it takes about 10000 hours to master anything? Take a look at all the Michael Jordans, the Stephen Kings and the John Lennons of the world and you will find an inhumane amount of time spent at their craft. Thats why they’re not normal people. Every single day, they put in hours and hours of deliberate practice at what they love doing.

And because of that, they’ve been able to accomplish great things.

There are many different reasons why continuous action is important.

(1) It builds habit

We really are what we repeatedly do. So when we choose to work on something we love, it becomes a habit and we just start to automatically build our lives around our effort. Before you know it, we find ourselves completely consumed by whatever we are working towards and loving every minute of it. Not like we can keep track of the minutes anyway because it is too sweet living this way.

(2) It builds focus

Making sure you put in your work everyday creates a laser-like focus. Whenever your working on something that you love doing and you want to accomplish, then you enter a FLOW state, which everyone describes as always something being awesome. It’s what life is all about!  A mind in focus is closed against negative influences and makes for a better quality of life.

(3) It builds pride

Having something you can be proud of is important. We walk up straighter and more confident knowing we are good at something that we want to be good at. Continuous action allows us to accomplish things that are important in our lives.

(4) It builds greatness

In order to become great at anything, continuous daily action is needed. Once you’ve decided what you REALLY want (which is really the tougher part of the equation) then you just gotta keep going till you become awesome at it. People will start to notice the work, and most importantly, we will be aware of our own greatness!

So whatever your talent is, make sure you work on it everyday.

like ALOT.

ALOT LOT!

what is something you like dedicating yourself to? I like to rap.

You are right, Rocky, sometimes deciding what you want is a the most difficult part, after that all you have to do is take continuos action until you get it. And you will get it for sure:) Great post, thanks!

I like to play MUSSSSSIC and/or produce, but due to everything being a bit expansive I feel playing music is working out for me better. One day though I’ll have a studio though! And you can rap in it anytime! Oh I’m thinking of getting an MPC, but we’ll see when that happens.

Hey! This is perfectly timed for me. I’ve been thinking the same thing. I love music too – it takes me into a zone. All different kinds. Currently massive attack are playing – they’re so hypnotic. But the thing I can get lost in, is writing. I could write all day and never get bored. And it’s true, years ago it used to take me ages to pen something and now it just flows out, almost by itself. Almost as if it’s been written by an unseen hand. I find the more I think, the harder it is but when it just flows it comes out perfectly. These are wise words Mr Rockonova. Thanks again. I like it x

It’s true that the more you practice the better you get. But make sure you practice while making adjustments to be more effective.

In the book Flight Plan by Brian Tracy, he uses the analogy of a airplane flight to master a goal. The plane will always reach its destination (goal) but 99% of the time the route (learning skill set) does not go according to the original plan (vision). Same for if you master something. Always make adjustments that will help you achieve your goal.

The difference between two people who are in equal in every respect but want to become good at X is speed of implementation. Always keep making corrections!

These are all so true, great article Rocky! Even the things I love doing, I often find them hard to do – because I don’t deliberately practice them in order to improve, make habit, bring flow and focus.

I know that I am much happier when I am doing the things I love, and I feel more focused, so why not practice them every day?!
