Giving Yourself Props For What You’ve Done

“aint nobody dope as me, Im dressed so fresh so clean”
-Outkast

My dad always told me that after I shovelled the driveway I should look back at what I’ve done. Always appreciate the honest work. I think that one single lesson has stayed with me my entire life because after I get finished with a task, I always smile and say, “hey allright!”

Too many people nowadays just don’t give themselves enough honest credit.

I am not talking about the bragging tell everyone what you’ve done kind, but the one where your genuinely satisfied with what you have accomplished and that in itself is enough.

sometimes you just gotta give yourself props!

After your done accomplishing what you set out to do, take the time just to breathe and smile. Look around. breathe. and smile. =)

Reward yourself with something, whether its your favorite food, watching your movie, spending intimate time with your significant other, make sure you feel the victory you so deserve.

Whenever your feeling down about something, stop that thinking! Go back to some major accomplishment and give yourself props again.

Do it for the big and the little things. Every big thing is just made up of little things so every step of the way, give yourself a little boost by being appreciate of what’s been accomplished so far.

Before you know it, giving ourselves props becomes a regular habit and we find ourselves feeling it’s own reward.

the greatness we all deserve

There are many benefits to giving ourselves props. The most important being a habit of gratitude. When it becomes a regular thing to feel appreciation for our work, we feel a lot more energized and happier.

There is also a reduced need for validation from others. Since it will become a habit for us to appreciate our own work, we start to need it less. And since we need less validation, we can give our own approval to the work of others and live a much happier life.

and don’t even get me started on the endorphins being released. =)

So go!

Give yourself props for whatever you’ve accomplished today !

I heartily agree. There is so much satisfaction from doing something well and then sitting back to appreciate it. And giving yourself a pat on the head for a job well done. Often, people only say something when they want to complain, so if there’s no one around to congratulate you, why not congratulate yourself? It makes sense to me :)

    Rocky,

It is good idea to look back at work you accomplished and feel good. I sometimes at night see my clean living area (after toys and other magazines clear up) and I feel lot better. Simple and maybe silly but clean house makes me feel better about my day. Good reminder.

Hey Rocky, great post here. We should all give ourselves props for doing a good job. A lot of the times, I think we put too much stress and pressure on ourselves that we forget to just live, breath, and look at our surroundings. Thanks for reminding ourselves of that and writing this awesome article. :)

I’m a fan of rewarding yourself for the process and the results … you can’t control the results, but you can control your approach.

great quote JD ! the only thing we (sometimes) have full control of is ourselves and the more we learn to do that, the better our results become!

    thanks for visiting !
