HOW SUSAN JEFFERS Ph.D. TAUGHT ME TO FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY

I remember one Thursday morning before band practice feeling an intense need to go to the library and borrow this book. I didn’t understand then, but I do now. After I was done reading, Susan Jeffers helped me realize a simple idea.

WHATEVER HAPPENS TO ME, GIVEN ANY SITUATION,

I CAN HANDLE IT

Everyday I watch so many people worry their life away about different things. Complaining about this and that, not taking any real action.

This book helped me realized that the fears we face are simply because we assume we can’t handle the situation we’re facing

But if you knew you can handle whatever life threw your way, what would you be afraid of?

Nothing.

There are two ways I’ve found to help reinforce this idea.

(1) Always Push Yourself Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Constantly putting yourself in new and uncomfortable situations helps you believe in yourself and your ability to handle any situation. Whatever happens, whether the situation was your choice or not, know that it’s going to ok. So feel free to make mistakes and try new things. Whether it’s saying hello to strangers, trying a new writing medium or deciding a career change, you will discover new things about your limits and/or lack thereof. The benefit in constantly pushing yourself is simply knowing it’s always going to work out just fine. I’ve come to find out that with every risk I was afraid of taking, I’ve ALWAYS felt better about myself afterwards. It might be slightly uncomfortable for a little bit, but the reward of knowing that I was able to handle that particular situation is always comforting.

(2) Surround Yourself With The Right People

We all deserve to live an abundant life filled with whatever we truly want. I’ve realized that since I continue to seek out new opportunities, the fear of trying new things will always be there. It is just a part of the experience. Yet I am also blessed with the best friends in the entire universe. Knowing that I have friends who will help me handle any situation allows me the freedom to try anything.

So whatever you choose to do and whatever happens, take a deep breath and trust in the the fact that you can handle it.

It’s so true that we have to surround ourselves with the right people. If you are surrounded by negativity then you can’t help but be negative yourself. If instead your are surrounded by like minded people who encourage you and love and appreciate you no matter what you do then you will have an extraordinary life.

I could not agree with this more! I even had a post saying the same thing at some point.

Do one thing that scares you every day.

Personally, it makes me stronger and no, it’s not comfortable but the victory is the reward.

    I love this! :-)

Love this Rocky, totally agree about putting yourself outside of your comfort zone. Too often I stick with things I know, and am happy with. But I know that if I pushed myself I would reap the benefits that far outweigh the fear.
